PM Modi virtually inaugurates the new terminal of Adampur Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually inaugurated the new terminal building of Adampur Airport. The inauguration has paved the way for the much-awaited resumption of flights from the airport. Adampur is the first and only airport in Doaba.

Union Minister Som Prakash, Rajya Sabha MPs Balbir Singh Seechewal and Ashok Mittal and Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Kotli were present at the launch event. Meanwhile, state cabinet minister Balkar Singh and Jalandhar MP Sushil Rinku, who were expected to attend, did not turn up.
Senior officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said the airport is expected to resume flights by the end of March. Flight services to Delhi and Mumbai and some to Jaipur were started from the airport. However, these were halted during the pandemic.
Adampur airport director Pushpendra Kumar said, “We have received proposals from two airlines, Spice Jet and Star India, to restart flights.
Flight operations will resume between March 23 and 27. We expect the first flight to Hindon airport. Some formalities remain which will be cleared soon.
Officials said the airlines, which will resume services, will operate under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of AAI, which will offer concessional rates. However, commercial airlines can also send proposals for flights, he said.
During the launch event, both Seechewal and Ashok Mittal demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to name the Adampur airport after Guru Ravidas. Kotli also raised demands. Mittal also demanded better road connectivity to the airport and resumption of flights soon.
Meanwhile, Union Cabinet Minister Som Prakash asked the MPs to demand better road connectivity to Adampur airport from the state government.
