According to Culture and Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh, “Mathura Vrindavan’s Holi is a vibrant celebration. The festivals here are a spectacular display of unique rituals and joyous celebrations that attract people from all over the world.”
He said the state government has established infrastructure facilities in Mathura, Vrindavan and Barsana to attract domestic and international tourists. Its aim is to attract more and more tourists from all over the world to witness Holi celebrations in Mathura-Vrindavan and Barsana. The festival lasts for 40 days, but the real excitement peaks only a week before Holi. The festivities begin with Barsana’s Laddu Holi and Lathmar Holi, where women beat men with sticks.
The minister said that Holi of Braj has special significance because of its association with Lord Krishna. The Braj region including Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan, Gokul, Nandgaon and Barsana is known for its unique Holi celebrations. He said that a large number of foreign tourists come to this area to see the colorful Holi celebrations. “We will ensure that they have a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will make them want to come back year after year,” he said.
