Sikkim: Crowds gathered to welcome Gunarsongmit Lepcha, grand felicitation ceremony
GANGTOK: A grand felicitation programme was organized at the Tourism Guest House, Rangpo on Tuesday to honour Gnersongmit Lepcha for her historic achievement of successfully scaling Mount Everest, bringing immense pride to the State of Sikkim and the Lepcha community.
The programme was organized by the Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association (SLYA) under the guidance of Chief Minister’s Additional Political Secretary (Gangtok) Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha and SLYA president Ongden Tshering Lepcha. The event witnessed the participation of distinguished dignitaries, community leaders, and a large gathering of members of the Lepcha community, a press release informs.
Among those present were chairman of the Primitive Tribe Welfare Board-cum-president of RMRT and North District Zilla Adhakshya, Kado Lepcha, Urgen Lepcha, CA to the Chief Minister, representatives of the Sikkim Lepcha Association, and other prominent personalities.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome to Gnersongmit Lepcha, followed by a formal felicitation ceremony recognizing her remarkable accomplishment of conquering the world’s highest peak. She was honoured with traditional khadas, mementoes, and heartfelt appreciation for her extraordinary feat.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries lauded Gnersongmit’s determination, courage, and perseverance, describing her achievement as a proud milestone for the Lepcha community and the entire State of Sikkim. They noted that her success serves as an inspiration to young people, encouraging them to pursue their goals with dedication, discipline, and resilience.
Speakers also highlighted that her historic ascent of Mount Everest reflects the strength, spirit, and potential of Sikkim’s youth, bringing recognition to the State at the national and international levels.
