Vaiko’s statement: Situation clear regarding majority in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: Amid the ongoing debate in Tamil Nadu politics regarding the Chief Minister and DMK chief M.K. Stalin, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko has made a major statement. He stated that no horse-trading was done to prove majority in the Assembly and that the allegations being made are baseless.

This statement came after the MDMK Executive Committee meeting held in Egmore, Chennai on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by party president A. Arjunraj and attended by several senior leaders, including General Secretary Vaiko, Treasurer M. Senthilthipan, Principal Secretary Durai Vaiko, and Deputy General Secretary A.K. Mani. The meeting discussed the party’s political position and alliance strategy.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Vaiko said that the Chief Minister has strengthened his majority position in the Assembly with the support of alliance partners. According to him, the government has the support of approximately 120 MLAs, making it clear that no controversial process was required to prove majority.

Vaiko also stated that the Chief Minister had no need to seek support from opposition party Edappadi Palaniswami. He stated that the formation of the government and the proof of majority were conducted through a completely democratic process and there were no irregularities.

He further clarified that if an opposition party offers support, there should be no objection to accepting it, as the exchange of political support is a normal process in a democracy.

Responding to allegations of horse-trading, Vaiko said that it is incorrect to say that the sole AMMK MLA has come forward to support the Thaveka government; this is not a form of horse-trading. According to him, this support is part of a voluntary political decision and should not be misrepresented.

He also stated that the Chief Minister’s intention was not to weaken the Dravidian parties, but to focus on forming the government and establishing administrative stability. According to Vaiko, the Chief Minister fulfilled his political responsibility and succeeded in forming the government with the support of the coalition.

Following this statement, discussions about majority and coalition politics have once again intensified in Tamil Nadu politics. Opposition parties have consistently questioned the government, while the ruling party and its allies claim that the government is based on a stable and legitimate majority.

Political analysts believe that such statements could further intensify political debate in the coming days, especially regarding the role of support and coalitions in the Assembly.
