Sensor-based siren installed at Kalinga Ghat to alert drivers about vehicles coming from opposite direction

Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) of Odisha has taken yet another advanced step with the aim to check accidents especially at ghats and blackspots on the road across the state and save maximum number of lives. As part of this effort, the STA has now installed sensor-based siren at the Kalinga Ghat in Kandhamal district to alert the drivers about the vehicles coming from the opposite direction.
According to the State Transport Authority, number of accident increases during the winter session due to fog and travel of huge number of people for picnics and holidays. To prevent this, the Commerce and Transport Department has taken various steps. It has begun a four-month road safety initiative in which awareness and enforcement are being done. Besides, tea is being distributed to the drivers to keep them refreshed during the night journey.
Adding to this, the department with the support of IIT Bhubaneswar has now used the latest technology to prevent accidents on the ghat roads and installed sensor-based siren at the Kalinga Ghat on an experimental basis.
After assessing the effectiveness of the sensor-based siren, it will be used at the Kalinga Ghat permanently and will be gradually installed on other accident-prone roads of the state, the Department informed.
