CM condemns Central Government’s refusal to increase moisture level in paddy

Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin alleged, “The central government has rejected the Tamil Nadu government’s request to increase the moisture content of paddy for procurement. This is another betrayal by the BJP government at the center.”

The central government has set the maximum moisture content for paddy procurement at 17 percent. Due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu this year, the Tamil Nadu government requested the central government to increase the moisture content to 22 percent.

Following this, the central government sent three teams to Tamil Nadu to study the moisture level in paddy. Last month (October), the team conducted a survey in various districts of Tamil Nadu, inspecting paddy storage warehouses and procurement centers, and soliciting feedback from farmers. After the team submits its report, it is expected that the central government will announce an increase in the moisture level.

However, with no announcement forthcoming, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday requesting that the moisture content of paddy be increased to 22 percent. In such a situation, news has emerged that Tamil Nadu’s request to increase the moisture content of paddy has been rejected.

Chief Minister Stalin has described the rejection of the paddy procurement request as another betrayal by the central government, even though the central government has already returned the detailed project report for the metro rail project for the cities of Madurai and Coimbatore.

He posted about this on the ‘X’ site on Thursday: After rejecting the metro rail project for Coimbatore, the Prime Minister came and left Coimbatore without any provocation. Meanwhile, the BJP government at the center has rejected the Tamil Nadu government’s request for a moisture content relaxation in paddy procurement.

The Prime Minister did not hear the voice of Tamil Nadu demanding the purchase of paddy that had become excessively wet due to heavy rains. The tears of the farmers are not visible.

It is unclear why the central government, which has repeatedly granted such moisture level relaxations to the Tamil Nadu government in previous years, is now refusing to grant them.

The Chief Minister posted, “Not providing the relief sought for crops affected by heavy rains and rising moisture levels will be detrimental to farmers. Therefore, I hope the Central Government will reconsider Tamil Nadu’s request, take a good decision and benefit the farmers.”
