Historic decision for sugarcane farmers of Kawardha

Kawardha. Chief Minister Good Governance Festival, Jandarshan, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, and other organizations have long demanded that non-shareholder farmers become members. Therefore, farmers who supplied sugarcane in the last crushing season will be granted membership. Additionally, sugarcane farmers who, according to a survey, supply sugarcane to the factory’s needs in the upcoming crushing season will also be granted membership next year.

A historic gift has been presented to the sugarcane farmers of Kawardha district. The Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Producer Factory is now extending membership to non-shareholder farmers. The Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Producer Factory Limited, Kawardha, has taken the historic decision to grant membership to non-shareholder farmers who will supply sugarcane in the upcoming crushing season, 2025-26. As per this decision, non-shareholder farmers who supply sugarcane will also be granted membership. This will provide equal status to all sugarcane farmers and ensure a stable and secure sugarcane supply to the factory.

This step is in the interest of farmers and will give a new direction to the cooperative movement in the region. The Bhoramdev Sugar Factory was registered on April 3, 2001, and currently has a capacity of 3,500 metric tons per day. At the time of establishment, a minimum share amount of ₹2,000 and an entry fee of ₹100 were set. Currently, it has 23,476 shareholder members, of whom approximately 12,500-13,000 farmers supply sugarcane each year. Four and a half lakh metric tons of sugarcane are required to meet the factory’s crushing target, but last year, the factory had to close prematurely due to insufficient sugarcane supply.

The Board of Directors, accepting this demand from farmers, has decided that in the future, non-shareholder farmers who supply sugarcane will also be granted membership. The factory management states that this decision will not only stabilize the sugarcane supply but also strengthen farmers’ confidence. Farmers have welcomed this decision, calling it a new chapter for sugarcane producers.
