Himachal: NH-Nurpur link closed due to landslide

Himachal Pradesh: The bypass road, locally known as Temple Road, collapsed in Nurpur town on Tuesday morning due to incessant rains for the past three days. The road, connecting Pathankot-Mandi National Highway-154 to Nurpur town, was heavily damaged due to landslides and mudslides, forcing the local administration to close it for vehicular traffic. Motorists were asked to take another route. The bypass road is an important connecting road for commuters to and from government offices like the Mini Secretariat building, Block Development Office and judicial courts. Devotees visiting the historic Brijraj Swami temple also use this road, reducing the traffic load on the bazaar roads of the town.

Several connecting roads connecting rural areas were also reported to be damaged and closed for traffic. Meanwhile, inclement weather and incessant rains have disrupted power supply in Nurpur town and some rural areas in the past three days. Residents faced power supply disruptions for long hours as power lines were damaged due to trees that fell due to landslides. Power supply to areas under Nurpur and Kotla 11 KV feeders was disrupted from Sunday morning to Monday evening due to damage caused by falling trees. Continuous rains and shortage of technical field staff at Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) have caused delay in restoring power supply in the area.

According to Vikas Thakur, Executive Engineer, Electrical Division Nurpur, “Power lines of 11 KV Nurpur feeder and Kotla feeder were damaged, disrupting power supply to Nurpur town and Bhadwar power block. Power supply was restored late last evening. Power supply from 11 KV Nurpur feeder was again disrupted on Tuesday morning after another tree fell on the line in Niazpur area of Nurpur. Besides, some power poles were damaged in Kutta (Kandwal) 11 KV feeder on Tuesday, causing heavy damage to the supply system in Kandwal power block. Power board staff are working to restore power supply in the area by evening,” the Executive Engineer said.
