Gopalpur sexual abuse case: Police approach Juvenile Justice Board to treat minor aged accused as major

Gopalpur: In the infamous Gopalpur beach sexual abuse by a gang case of Sunday, the police, considering the seriousness of this heinous crime, have urged the Juvenile Justice Board seeking permission from the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) to try the juvenile offenders of the case as adults.
The Berhampur police have applied to the Juvenile Justice Board in this regard.
It is to be noted that on Sunday evening, a girl was allegedly gang raped at the Gopalpur beach. After getting the complaint, police swung into action and detained 10 people who were later arrested. Out of them four are minors who were involved in incident. Now based on the nature of the of the crime which was heinous, police have applied to the JJV to treat them as adult offenders and not juvenile offenders.
After the Nirbhaya rape case of Dehli, there was a proposal that juvenile offenders between the ages of 16 and 18 years should be treated as juvenile offenders, in rare cases.
