Power engineers accuse government of delaying regularization

Srinagar Srinagar, The Jammu and Kashmir Electrical Engineering Graduates Association (JKEEGA) has reiterated its call for a day-long protest across the Union Territory on June 18 to press for the long-pending regularization of engineers in the Power Development Department (PDD). The JKEEGA has strongly criticised the government for failing to act on the regularization of engineers despite holding a crucial meeting of the Establishment-cum-Selection Committee on January 20. According to the association, even after four months, the government has not released the minutes of the meeting (MOM), leading to resentment and suspicion among the engineering fraternity.
JKEEGA President Er Peerzada Hidayatullah said, “It is extremely unfortunate that an important matter like regularization, which affects the morale, service security and administrative efficiency of hundreds of engineers, is being dealt with such indifference. The absence of MoM even after four months reflects the lack of sincerity and promptness on the part of the government.” The association warned that repeated dilly-dallying and administrative inaction was eroding the confidence of engineers who have faithfully served the department for years. “Delay in regularisation is not just about promotions; it is about restoring the dignity of those who have worked under challenging conditions to keep the power infrastructure operational.
Our engineers deserve clarity and timely decisions, not bureaucratic silence,” Hidayatullah said. JKEEGA has appealed to the government to take immediate corrective measures before the protest date to avoid statewide demonstrations. The protest on June 18 will be held simultaneously in Jammu and Srinagar, with participation of engineers from various cadres of the power sector expected. The association affirmed that their demand is legitimate and long pending. It also stressed that regularisation is not just a career milestone for engineers but a structural necessity for the smooth functioning and accountability of the Power Development Department. Unless the government takes decisive action before the deadline, JKEEGA has resolved to intensify its agitation in the coming weeks, he said, citing widespread discontent and growing unrest among engineers in the Union Territory.
