Trans Mountain pipeline makes China a major customer of Canadian oil

World World: China has become the largest customer of oil supplied by Canada’s Trans Mountain pipeline. After the expansion of the pipeline, China has increased the purchase of Canadian crude oil, leading to this situation. Due to the US trade war and US sanctions on Russia and Venezuela, China stepped up to buy oil from Canada.
Canada, which is the world’s fourth largest oil producer, has its main oil producing province Alberta in the interior and is not connected to coastal ports. After the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline, Canada exported about 207,000 barrels of oil per day to China in 2024, much higher than in previous years.
This expansion has also increased Canadian oil exports to other countries, such as Korea, Japan, India, and Taiwan. Canada is now diversifying its oil exports towards other markets for political and economic reasons.
