UPI transactions grew 34% year-on-year in April

New Delhi: The number of transactions through Unified Payment Interface (UPI) has increased by 34 percent year-on-year to 17.89 billion in April. However, there has been a slight decrease in it as compared to March. Last month this figure was 18.30 billion.
Along with the number of transactions in April, the amount of transactions through UPI has also seen an increase and it has increased by 22 percent year-on-year to Rs 23.95 lakh crore. The value of total UPI transactions in March was Rs 24.77 lakh crore.

The reason for the decrease in the number and value of UPI transactions in April as compared to March is the difference in the number of days during the month. There were 31 days in March, while the month of April was 30 days. In April, an average of 59.6 crore UPI transactions were done per day and their average value was Rs 79,831 crore.
On the other hand, in March, an average of 59 crore UPI transactions were done per day and their average value was Rs 79,910 crore. Last month, the number of Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transactions has come down by 18 percent on an annual basis to 44.9 crore. However, the amount of transactions has increased by 5 percent on an annual basis to Rs 6.22 lakh crore.

On the other hand, in April, an average of Rs 20,722 crore transactions were done through IMPS per day and during this period the average number of transactions was 1.49 crore per day. 9.5 crore transactions were done in April through Aadhaar based payment system AEPS. It has increased by 2 percent on an annual basis. Also, the value of transactions has increased by 6 percent on an annual basis to Rs 26,618 crore. In April, an average of 31.8 lakh transactions were done through AEPS per day and the average value of these transactions was Rs 887 crore per day.
