Himachal: Mini Shivratri fair concluded with promises of development

Himachal Pradesh: The state-level Mini Shivratri Mela concluded with a vibrant closing ceremony at Jogindernagar in Mandi district on April 5. The five-day event held from April 1 to 5 was attended by a large number of people and showcased a rich display of local culture and traditions. Minister of AYUSH, Law, Youth Services and Sports Yadvinder Goma graced the occasion as the chief guest. He formally welcomed the divine procession of local deities including Hurang Narayan and Pashakot from Chauhar Valley. The Minister performed traditional rituals at the old Mela ground and participated in the reception of the revered deities along with other notables like senior Congress leader and advocate Jivan Thakur. Addressing the public, Minister Goma highlighted the commitment of the State Government to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh. He praised the role of fairs and festivals in uplifting local artists and folk traditions. He emphasized that development of Jogindernagar Assembly constituency remains a major focus for the State Government. In an important announcement, the minister announced allocation of Rs 20 lakh for renovation and development of Jogindernagar playground.
He also sanctioned Rs 51,000 from his discretionary fund for the fair organising committee. Goma appreciated the efforts of the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and the committee for successful management of the fair, which witnessed huge crowd and enthusiastic participation. Earlier, the minister visited various stalls put up by government departments and self-help groups, interacted with exhibitors and appreciated their work. Congress leader Jeevan Thakur also spoke at the event and thanked the state government for supporting development initiatives in the region and ensuring success of the fair. SDM Manish Chaudhary, who is also the chairman of the fair committee, welcomed the minister and gave a detailed account of the planning and execution of the fair. The highlight of the closing ceremony was the prize distribution for the wrestling competition organised during the fair. Deepak of Jogindernagar emerged the winner, receiving a cash prize of Rs 31,000 and the traditional “Gurj”. Farukh from Patiala secured the runner-up position and was awarded a prize of Rs 21,000. The event was attended by representatives from local bodies, Panchayati Raj Institutions, urban authorities and various government departments, making it a grand celebration of tradition and progress. The successful conclusion of the Mini Shivratri Mela not only reflected the rich cultural spirit of Jogindernagar but also demonstrated the continued commitment of the government to regional development.
