Police rescued missing minors, accused of exploitation sent to jail

Raigarh. Under the guidance of SP Divyang Patel, Kotrarod police recovered missing minor girls in two separate cases and arrested the accused involved in their exploitation and sent them on remand.
The first case came to light on 31 December 2023, when on 24 December, a complaint of the disappearance of a teenage girl was lodged by her family at Kotrarod police station. On this, the police registered a case under missing and crime number 595/23 section 363 IPC and started investigation. During the investigation, on 6 February 2025, the police recovered the missing girl from near the accused Arun Majhi (27), resident of Kotrarod police station area. After the statement and medical examination of the girl, it was revealed that Arun Majhi lured her away on the pretext of marriage despite her being a minor and continued to physically exploit her. On this, the police arrested the accused and sent him on remand, adding sections 366, 376 IPC and sections of POCSO Act in the case.
The second case was registered on 28 January 2025, when the family of a minor girl lodged a missing report at Kotrarod police station. The family told that the girl had left for school on 27 January, but did not return home. Despite all efforts, no trace of her was found. The police registered a case against the unknown accused under missing person and crime number 41/25 section 137 (2) BNS and started investigation. During investigation, the police recovered the minor girl from her own village, where the accused Vijju alias Vijay Jongde (24) lured her with the promise of marriage despite her being a minor and took her away. Police investigation also revealed that the accused physically exploited the girl. On this, the police arrested the accused under sections 65 (1), 87 BNS and POCSO Act and sent him on remand.
