Danger of sea attack on Kerala coast: Heavy rains to begin from Sunday
Kerala: Under the Black Sea phenomenon, the National Centre for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research has informed that high waves and storm surge of 0.5 to 1.0 m are likely to hit the Kerala and Tamil Nadu coasts by 05.30 pm today. Fishermen and coastal residents should remain alert as there is a risk of sea attack.

- As the sea is likely to intensify, people should stay away from danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Small boats and yachts should be avoided during this period.
- Launching fishing vessels into the sea during high tide and Black Sea phenomenon is equally dangerous. Therefore, it is important to avoid going into the sea and landing on the shore during strong waves.
- Keep fishing vessels (boats, barges etc.) safely tied up in the harbour. The risk of collision can be avoided by keeping a safe distance between the boats. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
- Avoid beach visits and sea activities.
- Be extra cautious due to the possibility of coastal erosion.
A cyclonic vortex is located over the Comorin area. The Meteorological Department said that as a result, thunderstorms are likely in the state. The Central Meteorological Department said that rain will continue in the state in the coming days. Isolated heavy rains are expected in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on Sunday (19/01/2025). The Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert in these districts.
Yellow alert means heavy rain ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
