Jalandhar: Candle march against Chinese door sellers

Jalandhar: A day after 45-year-old Harpreet Singh of Adampur died due to Chinese kite string, his body was cremated today. His family members, including his wife Satinder Kaur, are inconsolable. They sought help for their children. Meanwhile, local NGOs and the Adampur Press Club have decided to take out a candle march on Wednesday evening. They will demand action against those selling and buying Chinese kite strings. Hatinder Mehta, one of the members of the Adampur Press Club, said such incidents should not happen again. “It is heartbreaking to see families suffering like this,” he said.

Last year, a 13-year-old boy from Adampur also died after he suffered fatal injuries on his neck from the string. Harpreet, a resident of Adampur in Jalandhar, was the sole breadwinner of his family of four. “Our lives have been ruined, I want strict action against those who are still selling the banned manjha,” said Satinder Kaur, pointing to her two children. “My husband could not take a day off. Even when he joined us in Lohri celebrations, he wanted to go to work to earn for us,” said a saddened Satinder Kaur.
