Punjab: Boxers join hands to train young boxers

Punjab: In just four months of its inception, the “Knockout Boxing and Fitness School” in Jalandhar, founded by national-level boxer Honey Chauhan, has made its mark by winning six medals at the Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan. The students of the academy showcased their ability and dedication by winning three gold, two silver and one bronze medals in the under-14 and under-21 categories. The academy currently trains 20 students, including girls, under the guidance of Chauhan and Rishi Sharma, who supports the initiative. The school operates from Victor Model School in Jalandhar Cantt, which provides the students with the necessary boxing equipment, and plans to add a boxing ring soon.

Chauhan, who has been boxing for 22 years and has represented India in several international tournaments, is determined to nurture young talent in Jalandhar. “I wanted to teach them at an early age,” Chauhan said in an interview with The Tribune. His goal is to build a team capable of winning Olympic gold for India. Reflecting on the academy’s early success, he proudly said: “Our students will now compete at the state level. I couldn’t be more proud.” Among the academy’s top performers is Rishi Sharma’s own son Yuvraj Sharma, who won a gold medal at the tournament, while his younger brother won a silver medal. Rishi, who studied boxing at the university level, has played a key role in realising Chauhan’s dream of creating a world-class boxing space for local students. Honey Chauhan added: “Months ago, I began discussions with school principals to find a space, and was fortunate to receive support from leading academics Prominent Academics. We have built a solid foundation, and now our focus is on bigger competitions.” With a strong start and a promising group of young athletes, Knockout Boxing and Fitness School is rapidly gaining recognition. Both Chauhan and Sharma are committed to their mission of producing champions, with their ultimate goal being to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics.
