99% beneficiaries vaccinated: Minister M. Subramanian

Tamil Nadu : Public Health Minister M. Subramaniam said Tamil Nadu has achieved a record of vaccinating 99 per cent of beneficiaries. As per the notification of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Grants Request (2025-26), Minister M. Subramaniam on Wednesday launched the expansion of vaccination services in urban health and wellness centres at Thyagaraya Nagar in Chennai. Following this, he released an awareness manual on vaccination services for the public. At the time, he told reporters: It was decided to expand vaccination services in 708 urban health centres in 25 corporations and 63 municipalities in Tamil Nadu. Accordingly, it has been put into use in the 500 centres currently operational. 11 types of vaccines: In Tamil Nadu, 11 types of vaccines are administered to pregnant women and 12 types of vaccines are administered to children. These vaccines protect against diseases such as TB, diphtheria, whooping cough, jaundice, influenza pneumonia, measles, polio, measles, rubella, rotavirus diarrhoea and Japanese encephalitis. Every year, 9,58,000 pregnant women and 8,76,000 children are vaccinated.

Tamil Nadu has achieved a remarkable feat by vaccinating 99 per cent of its beneficiaries, leaving behind other states.

Vaccination is being provided at 36 government medical college hospitals, 37 district government major hospitals, 255 taluk and non-taluk hospitals and 2,286 primary health centres. He said 12 comprehensive services, including maternity and child care services and immunization, are being provided at primary health centres and urban primary health centres under the Health for All scheme.
