9 kg deer meat seized in Odisha, two arrested

Kendrapara: Two men were arrested on Saturday in the Gahirmatha Forest Range of Odisha’s Kendrapara district, with nine kilograms of deer meat allegedly seized from them, officials said.

Acting on a tip-off, the suspected poachers were caught in the Sasanpeta forest area and deer meat and nylon nets used for trapping wild animals were seized from them, a forest official said. Another forest official suspected the two had laid the trap to trap deer or wild boar.

He further said, “It appears the accused killed a spotted deer in the forest area. A case has been registered against them under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.”
