85 year old woman raped and killed

Haasan (IANS) | Karnataka Police has cracked the heinous rape-murder case of an 85-year-old woman in Hassan district and arrested one of the culprits. Officials gave this information on Thursday. The arrested person has been identified as 32-year-old Mithun Kumar. The incident came to light on April 2 at Yarehalli village in Hassan district. The naked body of an old woman was found in a field in the village, whose head was crushed.

The police, after conducting an investigation, had raised doubts about the role of the accused involved in the attempted rape of an old woman five years ago. After being taken into custody and interrogated by the police, the accused has confessed to his crime.

Police said the victim, an old woman, was unable to go to her farm, so she approached the bike rider. The bike-riding accused had promised the old man that he would give him a lift to his farm and took the woman on the bike.

He took the woman to an isolated place and attempted to rape her. Police said when the old woman protested, he crushed her head with a big stone and later raped her.

Concerned as the old woman did not return home, the relatives started searching for her the next day and found her body. Further investigation is on.
