E-auction of VIP numbers concludes in MP; MP09BS0009 fetches cbid of ₹1.26 lakh.
Madhya Pradesh: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced the final results of the recent e-auction for VIP vehicle registration numbers. While there was enthusiastic bidding for several attractive numbers, some failed to fetch the expected high prices, whereas others attracted record-breaking bids.
According to officials, the number MP09BS9999 garnered the most attention, attracting bids from seven individuals. Although it was the most hotly contested number during the auction, its final price stood at just ₹28,500; despite the high level of interest, the bidding concluded at a relatively low figure.
The standout winner of the auction was the number MP09BS0009. It witnessed fierce competition, with a direct face-off between two bidders driving the price steadily upward. Ultimately, it was sold for a top bid of ₹1.26 lakh. While the reserve price was set at ₹50,000, the final bid more than doubled that amount.
Officials noted that such competition is becoming common in VIP number e-auctions, as people are willing to pay a premium for unique or special numbers. The appeal of MP09BS0009 is attributed to its simple and memorable numerical sequence.
Another premium number, MP09BS0001, was also part of the auction. It was allotted for ₹1 lakh without any competition. As it falls under a special category, demand for this number was already considered stable.
RTO officials state that the e-auction process has not only enhanced transparency but also led to a significant increase in revenue. The online system allows for easy bidding, and all transaction records are securely maintained digitally.
There has been a steady rise in the demand for VIP number plates recently, particularly among businesspeople, entrepreneurs, and private vehicle owners. People are not shying away from spending significant amounts on unique numbers to give their vehicles a distinctive identity.
According to experts, such auctions provide the government with an additional source of revenue while offering individuals the opportunity to select a number of their choice. However, intense competition sometimes drives the prices of certain numbers to unusually high levels, as was observed in the recent case of the number MP09BS0009.
Overall, this e-auction has once again demonstrated the growing enthusiasm for VIP numbers, a trend that is likely to gain further momentum in the future.
