60-year-old cyclist dies in road accident

Raipur. Raipur. A tragic case of road accident has come to light in the capital Raipur district. 60-year-old Mehtaru Ram Nishad, a resident of village Tara under Kharora police station area, died in a road accident. The deceased was brought to DKS Super Specialty Hospital in Raipur by his family in critical condition for treatment, where he died during treatment. In the case, Kharora police has registered a crime against the unknown four-wheeler driver and started investigation.

How did the accident happen?

According to the information received, the incident took place on July 31, 2025 between 11 am and 12 noon. The deceased Mehtaru Ram Nishad was returning from village Saragaon to his village Tara on his bicycle. Then the unknown four-wheeler driver hit him while driving fast and recklessly near the Kali temple in village Saragaon. The accident was so severe that Mehtaru Ram was seriously injured. He suffered serious injuries on his head and body. The family and local villagers immediately took him to Raipur’s DKS Hospital for treatment. He was admitted here and treatment continued for several days. But due to his critical condition, he died on 4 August 2025 at 7:40 pm.

Police registered a case

The hospital management informed the police about the incident. First of all, the Golbazar police station registered a case without numbering and got the postmortem done after preparing the Panchnama of the dead body. Later the entire case was transferred to Kharora police station. Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Sureshchandra Yadav posted at Kharora police station registered a numbering case (number 125/2025) on the basis of the case diary (number 0/692/2025 section 194 BNSS) received from Golbazar police station and started the investigation. During the investigation, the statements of the deceased’s son Kamlesh Nishad and Panchnama witnesses were recorded. It was clear that the cause of the accident was an unknown four-wheeler driver, who hit Mehtaru Ram while driving recklessly.

Accident confirmed in postmortem report
The report received from DKS Super Specialty Hospital Raipur states the possible cause of death of the deceased as Road Traffic Accident (RTA). According to the doctors, the deceased had suffered serious injuries on the spine and head, due to which his condition remained critical and eventually he died during treatment.
Crime registered against unknown driver
Kharora police has registered a crime against the unknown driver on the basis of facts found in the inquest. Police has registered a case under Section 281 (negligent driving), Section 125 (a) (causing death by negligence) and Section 106 (1) (provisions related to protection of human life) of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and started investigation.

Mourning in the family after the accident
The untimely death of Mehtaru Ram Nishad, a resident of village Tara, has caused mourning in the village and the family. The family of the deceased is completely shocked. The deceased’s son Kamlesh Nishad himself brought him to DKS Hospital and kept on treating him continuously, but the father could not be saved. Villagers say that vehicles often run at high speed on Saragaon road, due to which there is a possibility of accidents.
Police action and further investigation
Kharora police station says that the unknown vehicle and its driver are being identified. The investigation will be carried forward on the basis of CCTV cameras installed around the incident site and statements of eyewitnesses. The police clarified that the accused driver will be identified soon and strict action will be taken against him.
Question on road safety
This accident once again raises questions on the road safety system of Raipur district. Vehicles often run at high speed on the roads passing through rural areas without speed breakers and indicator boards. This is the reason why pedestrians and cyclists are becoming victims of accidents every day. Local people have demanded from the administration that special vigil should be kept on Saragaon-Tarra road and the traffic system should be improved. In this case, the police has prepared a diary of death (untimely and accidental death) and has also sent the report to SDM and other concerned officials. The body of the deceased was handed over to the family after Panchnama proceedings. Also, the investigation of the incident is going on and the police is investigating every aspect.
