Tamil Nadu : DMK and AIADMK candidates contesting the Rajya Sabha elections filed their nominations on Friday.
3 candidates from DMK, 2 from AIADMK and 1 from Makkal Needhi Maiam have filed nominations for the six vacant seats. If all these nominations are accompanied by proper proposals, then it is certain that all six candidates will be elected unopposed.
The process of filing nominations for the six Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant in Tamil Nadu in July began last Monday. Earlier, DMK candidates P. Wilson, Rokeya Malik (A) Salma and S.R. Sivalingam along with DMK-backed Makkal Needhi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan were declared candidates.
Similarly, party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had announced that I.S. Inpathurai and M. Dhanapal will contest on behalf of AIADMK.
Nominations filed on the same day: All the six candidates who decided to contest on behalf of DMK and AIADMK filed their nominations on the same day on Friday. For this, he reached the Assembly office located at the Chennai Secretariat along with his party leaders, executive and Legislative Council members.
DMK candidates started filing their nominations at around 12 noon. P. Wilson was the first to file his nomination. In the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, DMK treasurer T.R. Balu and Tamil Nadu Congress President K. Selvapperundhagai, Wilson submitted his nomination to the Returning Officer and Additional Secretary of the Assembly P. Subramaniam.
Kamal Haasan’s nomination: After him, Makkal Needhi Maiam party leader and actor Kamal Haasan filed his nomination. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Communist Party of India MLA Thali Ramachandran and Indian Union Muslim League General Secretary K.M. Mohammed Abubakar were present to lead the Chief Minister.
After Kamal Haasan, poet Salma filed a petition against Rokhaiya Malik (A). He was accompanied by DMK Parliamentary Party leader Kanimozhi, Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary P. Shanmugam and Humanist People’s Party leader M.H. Jawahirullah, who submitted the petition to the Chief Minister.
Among the DMK candidates, the party’s Salem East district secretary S.R. Sivalingam filed his nomination to the returning officer. VKC chairman T. Thirumavalavan, ministers E.V. Velu and R. Rajendran were present at the time.
AIADMK candidates: DMK candidates began filing their nominations at 12.05 pm and completed it at 1.10 pm. Later, two AIADMK candidates filed their nominations. Party candidates I.S. Inpathurai and M. Dhanapal filed their nominations in the presence of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
