Mahasamund. In Mahasamund, Kotwali Police and Cyber Cell have busted the IPL betting gang. Police have arrested 6 people during the action. The police have seized 3 laptops, 13 mobiles, 20 SIM cards, 1 bank passbook, 3 check books from these accused and have frozen Rs 5 lakh in 5 current accounts.
Actually, Kotwali police had received information from an informer on April 9 that a person in Subhash Nagar Mahasamund was playing online IPL betting from his mobile. When the police conducted a raid on the information of the informer, a person was found on the spot. Who told his name as Saket Sahu (age 25 years), resident of Ward No. 22 Subhash Nagar. One mobile phone and Rs 1700 in cash were recovered from his possession. When the police examined the mobile phone of the accused, he was found to be conducting online betting through a site called APPA Book App. During police interrogation, accused Saket Sahu admitted to betting through an app on his mobile and giving his bank account to another person. When the police asked him for any valid document related to this, he could not show any valid document. On the basis of which the Kotwali police registered a case under Section 7, 8 of Chhattisgarh Gambling Prohibition Act 2022 and took it under investigation.
During the investigation, based on the evidence obtained, the police went to Ghatshila in Jamshedpur district of neighboring state Jharkhand and conducted a raid and arrested 4 more accused from the spot. The arrested accused include Rahul Sharma (age 22 years) resident of Khursipar Bhilai district Durg, Mukesh Chauhan (age 22 years) resident Kekraghat Dhurkot district Janjgir Champa, Jegendra Chhura (age 30 years) resident Subhash Nagar Mahasamund and a minor child. All the accused have confessed to providing online betting from a site called APPA Book App.
