53 lakh children to be vaccinated across Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The state government has set up about 43,000 booths at all primary health centres, government hospitals, Integrated Child Development Scheme centres, midday meal centres, schools and other important places as part of the nationwide pulse polio vaccination campaign, which was inaugurated by Chief do. Minister MK Stalin on Sunday.

The government has made elaborate arrangements to vaccinate around 53 lakh children in the campaign which will run from 7 am to 5 pm.

Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Dr TS Selvavinayagam told TNIE that the state has 82 lakh vaccine doses in stock. He said that a door-to-door campaign would be conducted on Monday to cover the children left out of the campaign.
He said, “Apart from these, polio doses will be available round the clock at all the PHCs in the state.”
Government vehicles have been deployed for the campaign, and transit booths will operate at major bus stands, railway stations, toll plazas, check posts, airports on campaign days to cover children during the journey. Employees and volunteers from Integrated Child Development Scheme, Education and other government departments are engaged in the campaign.
