Jalalabad (Afghanistan) (IANS) | Heavy rains and flash floods killed four people and injured 25 others in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province. The provincial government gave this information in a statement issued here on Saturday. Heavy rains caused flash floods in the province on Friday evening, killing four people, including three children, the statement said.
As many as 300 houses were washed away or badly damaged in the devastating floods, Xinhua news agency reported. Thousands of acres of farmland have also been destroyed, the statement said.
Meanwhile, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds also damaged orchards and fruit trees in northern Balkh, Samangan, Takhar, Kundaj and Baghlan provinces.
Afghanistan’s meteorological department has predicted more rain and flooding in 18 of the country’s 34 provinces in the coming days.
