Dewas: On Friday, a 30-year-old man jumped into the Narmada River from an old bridge in Dewas.
Onlookers witnessed the incident and raised an alarm. The bridge is located in Nemawar, about 150 kilometers from the district headquarters.
Local swimmers and divers near the bridge immediately began searching for the man. Nemawar police also arrived at the scene after being informed and joined the search operation. After several hours of searching, the man was pulled out of the river, but he had already died.
Several hours later, the deceased was identified as 30-year-old Ganesh Rathore, son of Gokulprasad Rathore, a resident of Chhoti Harda village in Harda district. Police said a case has been registered and further investigation is underway. The reason for the man jumping into the river is still unclear. Police officials said the exact reason would be known only after the investigation is complete and statements from the family members are recorded.
Meanwhile, people present at the Narmada Ghat objected to the way the body was handled.
According to locals, when the body was being sent for post-mortem, some people initially lifted it and placed it on a tractor-trolley.
Then, two people sitting on the trolley were seen pulling the body forward. Locals termed this act as inhumane and demanded that bodies be handled with respect.
The incident has caused concern among the local population and raised questions about proper procedures in such sensitive situations.
