Panjim: In a tragic accident, a 25-year-old woman hailing from Andhra Pradesh was crushed to death under the wheels of a four-wheeler at Starco Junction in Anjuna in the early hours of Monday.
According to the police, T Poojita, a resident of Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, was going towards Pooja restaurant from Starco Junction with her friend Shivam Upalaksha, a native of Haryana. When they reached the Manali guest house, Shivam lost control of the rent-a-bike and crashed into a compound wall. Due to this, Pujitha, who was sitting in the rear seat, fell on the road and was crushed by the car being driven by Hyderabad native Samreen Bawani. Samreen even allegedly dragged Pujitha for 100 meters towards Pooja restaurant.
The deceased was admitted to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Anjuna, where the doctor declared him brought dead.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Anjuna PI Prashal Desai said the body has been preserved at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim and the post-mortem is likely to be conducted on March 12, 2024.
A case has been registered under sections 279 and 304 A of the IPC at Anjuna police station and Samreen Bawani has been arrested. Further investigation is ongoing.
