Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of mini-sports stadiums in 23 assembly constituencies at a cost of ₹69 crore, via video conferencing from the Secretariat in Chennai.
A press release issued by the Tamil Nadu government in this regard stated:
In the first phase, mini-sports grounds were constructed at a cost of ₹3 crore each in eight assembly constituencies, namely Kolathur, Chepauk, Srivaikuntam, Karaikudi, Cholavandan, Vaniyambadi, Kangeyam, and Alangudi, where sports facilities were lacking. In addition, steps have been taken to complete the work in the Padmanabhapuram assembly constituency soon and open it for public use.
The 22 Chief Minister’s Mini Stadiums announced by the Deputy Chief Minister in the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department’s grant request last year (2024-2025) are nearing completion. Currently, work is underway in 44 assembly constituencies in the third phase.
In this regard, the constituencies include Pakur and Thali in Krishnagiri district, Peravurani, Thiruvaiyaru and Orathanadu in Thanjavur district, Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district, Manapparai in Trichy district, Gingee, Tindivanam and Thirukovilur in Villupuram district, Maduravoyal, Thiru.V.K. Nagar, Perambur in Chennai district, and Tiruchuli in Virudhunagar district.

Stalin on Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of mini-sports stadiums at a cost of ₹69 crore in a total of 23 assembly constituencies, including Rajapalayam, Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district, Nannilam, Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur district, Kulithalai in Karur district, Alandur in Chengalpattu district, Killiyoor in Kanyakumari district, Sankagiri and Edappadi in Salem district.
It is reported that the stadiums will be built in the respective areas for athletics, football, basketball, handball, kabaddi, and other popular sports.
