Jammu (IANS) | Police on Thursday arrested two drug peddlers from Punjab in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. Police said they have busted an inter-state drug racket by arresting two drug peddlers from Punjab. About 22 kg of heroin-like substance has been recovered from the smugglers’ possession, police said. Both the smugglers were arrested from Sunderbani area of Rajouri district. The investigation of the front and back links of the case has been started.
Rajouri SSP Amritpal Singh said, “Police had received intelligence that two suspects were going from Rajouri towards Jammu in a vehicle on late Wednesday evening.” Acting swiftly on the inputs, police teams were put on alert across the district.
Police further said that to stop them the existing nakas were strengthened and some mobile MCVPs were also installed. A vehicle (registration number AJK01AB5470) was intercepted at a police naka near ITI Sunderbani on Rajouri-Poonch Highway in Jammu at around 9.30 pm.
Police said two persons from Punjab were traveling in the vehicle, which was searched. During the search, 22 kg of heroin-like substance was recovered from them. Both the persons arrested have been identified as Onkar Singh and Shamsher Singh, both residents of Gurdaspur district of Punjab.
The SSP termed it a major success for the police against drugs and said that the narco-militancy aspect of the seizure is also being probed.
