Punjab: Police have arrested two people here for threatening a local industrialist and demanding extortion. Four days ago, the victim had received a letter on Babbar Khalsa International letterhead in which the suspects had demanded extortion money of Rs 80 lakh and threatened to face dire consequences if the demand was not met.
One of the suspects was identified as Dilbag Singh, a resident of Bal Kalan village. Police said he was earlier arrested in the Shingar Cinemabomb blast case in Ludhiana and was currently out on bail. The second suspect was identified as Gurjant Singh of Beant Nagar area of Ajnala. Confirming his arrest, Amritsar Rural Police SSP Satinder Singh said further investigation in the case is underway. “While investigating the case, the police arrested Dilbagh Singh and later Gurjant Singh in the case. Gurjant Singh helped him in making duplicate letterheads and drafted the extortion letter,” said the SSP. Police seized a computer, a printer, documents, printed papers, a letter pad, two bikes and three mobiles from their possession. Police said there were three criminal cases registered against Dilbagh.
