Punjab: Two youths entered the house of a businessman in Ramdas Nagar area and tried to rob him, but were caught by family members and handed over to the police. His third accomplice managed to escape from the spot.
The arrested people were identified as Jagroop Singh, resident of Padda village and Amandeep Singh, resident of Shahpur Jajan village of Dera Baba Nanak.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had no criminal background. After his financial condition deteriorated, he tried to steal.
Gaurav Kathia, a resident of Ramdas, told the police that he runs an SBI customer service center in the town. On Tuesday evening, when he closed the center and started going to his home, the suspects followed him. When Kathiya entered the house, the suspects also entered the premises and tried to snatch her bag full of cash at gunpoint.
However, Kaithiya confronts him. His family members, including his brother Arun, wife and mother also arrived and caught the suspects. Neighboring people also reached home. The two suspects were handed over to the police, while their accomplice managed to flee the scene.
Police recovered a plastic toy pistol from the possession of the suspects. Investigating officer (IO) sub-inspector Guraiqbal Singh said the two were produced in the court and brought on police remand for further investigation.
The IO said that as per preliminary investigation, the two suspects were childhood friends. Jagroop used to run a medical store which incurred losses. “Due to losses at the medical store he was forced to rob the owner of the SBI customer service centre. They conducted recce of the center before attempting to rob Kathiya on Tuesday evening,” the IO said. The IO said that the court sent both of them on police remand for three days and further investigation is going on.
