New Delhi: A total of 145 cases of Covid-19 subvariant JN.1 have been reported in India till December 28, official sources said on Friday. Official sources told ANI, “A total of 145 cases of JN.1 variant have been reported till December 28. “These samples were collected between November 21 and December 18, 2023.”
The highest number of cases of JN.1 variant have been reported from Kerala. Official sources said the state recorded 41 cases of the JN.1 subvariant, most of which were isolated at home. Before the new year, the central and state governments are keeping a close eye on the new Omicron subvariant JN.1.
As per the latest update, India recorded 797 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and the number of active cases stands at 4,000. JN.1 is a variant of interest (VOI) that is subject to intensive scientific investigation. As of December 16, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 7,344 cases of the COVID-19 JN.1 subvariant from 41 countries.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday issued guidelines for Covid-19 suspected or positive cases to be reported to hospitals following the sudden surge in coronavirus cases in the country.
The director of AIIMS Delhi on Wednesday held a meeting with heads of all departments of the hospital on COVID-19 contingency measures. In the meeting, the policy on COVID-19 testing, designated areas for positive patients and their hospitalization were discussed.
As per the COVID-19 testing policy directed by the management, testing will be done for patients with SARI (severe acute respiratory infection) like symptoms which includes acute respiratory infection, persistent fever or fever of >= as per WHO. With cough >38°C and onset within the last 10 days.
