12 injured in BJP-TMC clash in Harishchandrapur, Malda

At least 12 people were injured in political violence that broke out in Malda’s Harishchandrapur on Wednesday morning, with the BJP and Trinamool blaming each other.

Both parties lodged police complaints against each other on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Malda North BJP candidate Khagen Murmu demonstrated in front of the local police station and demanded action against the accused Trinamool supporters “within 24 hours”.
He alleged that on Tuesday, Trinamool supporters led by party leader Pujan Das attacked BJP leader Kamal Thokdar in Pipla village of Harishchandrapur.
“The attackers vandalized Kamal’s house and beat him up. His family members were beaten. Some BJP supporters who tried to protest were attacked with swords,” Murmu alleged.
Trinamool leaders blamed sitting MP Murmu for the attacks. “On the instigation of the MP, BJP-backed goons are scaring our people. They attacked Poojan Das and damaged his two-wheeler. He is admitted in the hospital. The police should immediately stop this violence by the BJP,” said local Trinamool leader Ziaur Rahman.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
