11th class student drowned in river, painful death
Surajpur. In Surajpur on Wednesday, a class 11 student died due to drowning in an anicut of Ren river. After giving the exam, he had gone to take a bath with his three friends. Seeing his friend drowning, he went into deep water to save him and drowned himself. Om Sahu (17), resident of Surajpur, had left home in the morning to appear for the examination at Swami Atmanand School. When his examination ended at 12.30, he went with his friends to take bath in the Anicut of Ren river in Nayanpur. There all four went down to the river to take a bath. One of his friends went into the depth and started drowning. Om Prakash Sahu went into deep water to save him. He didn’t know how to swim.
So he could not reach his friend and went in the other direction. When Om’s friends raised an alarm, people bathing nearby saved a friend who was drowning, but could not pull Om Sahu out. On receiving information about the incident, family members and police reached the spot. SDRF team recovered the body of the student after 2 hours of rescue. The police have sent his body for postmortem. His father Vijay Sahu runs a paan shop. Nayanpur Anicut of Surajpur is dangerous due to its depth. Many people have died here before due to drowning. Even after this the area has not been restricted. People reach Anicut to take bath.
