10 Indians killed in Russia-Ukraine war, Centre’s statement in Supreme Court

Delhi: The Central Government in New Delhi informed the Supreme Court that ten Indian citizens involved in fighting with Russian forces during the Russo-Ukrainian War have died. This information was provided to the court on Friday, adding further gravity to the matter.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi is hearing the case. During the hearing, the court observed that the situation needs to be handled “prudently,” as retrieving bodies from a war zone is a difficult and risky task.

Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, representing the Central Government, made this information to the court. She was presenting arguments on a petition seeking steps to ensure the safe return of 26 Indian citizens. The petition claims that these Indians are allegedly being detained in Russia and forced to fight in the war.

The information provided by the government has further escalated the matter, raising questions about the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad. The court also discussed the complex process of repatriating people trapped in war-like situations, as well as the identification and retrieval of bodies.

The Supreme Court has called for maintaining sensitivity in this matter and indicated that further action will be taken after considering all aspects.

This case concerns Indians who allegedly traveled to Russia for employment or other reasons and later became trapped in war-related situations. The petition seeks their safe rescue from the government.

The court has currently continued hearing the case and has asked the central government to provide further information and clarify the situation. This development has raised serious concerns about the safety of Indian citizens abroad.
