New Delhi (IANS) | Delhi Police officials have foiled any untoward incident in and around Delhi with the arrest of one person and recovery of around 10 country-made hand grenades. An official gave this information on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Dileep, a resident of Holambi Kalan, Delhi, however another accused who supplied the grenade to Dileep is still absconding.
According to the police, a police team reached the spot on Sunday following a specific information regarding the presence of a country-made hand grenade buried in the area of Metro Vihar, Phase-II, Holambi Kalan.
There, a suspect was apprehended and identified as Dileep, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer-North) Ravi Kumar Singh said. On sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that about 10 grenades were given to him by his friend, who is another co-accused (name not disclosed) for safe keeping of these grenades.
Subsequently, country-made hand grenades were recovered at the instance of accused Dileep. The recovered hand grenade was kept inside a plastic bucket. The bucket was covered with grass and bushes and placed in the soil near a stream.
The concerned intelligence agencies were also informed for questioning the accused. The accused was arrested after registering an FIR under relevant sections.
The officer said the matter is being probed and search is on for the other accused. The motive behind hiding and keeping these grenades in the forest is not yet clear. The facts are being verified in detail.
