10 arrested for organizing ‘horse cart race’ in Delhi

New Delhi (IANS) | At least 10 people were detained in the national capital on Sunday for allegedly organizing a ‘horse cart race’ near Rajghat, creating nuisance and putting others’ lives at risk on the road. Those caught included those on two-wheelers engaged in clearing the way for horse-drawn carriages as well as those on carts. Police said four horse carts and three two-wheelers have been seized.

A senior police officer said that they got information about it around 4.30 pm.

“We received information that some people were engaged in horse racing on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg from Rajghat towards Delhi Gate, Civic Center and moving towards Paharganj,” the police officer said. A police team immediately swung into action and barricaded the road near PS Kamla Market.

Four horse carts have been seized and six people riding on them have been detained.

The detained people created nuisance on the road and put the lives of others at risk on the road, the official said.

FIR has been registered under section 289,268,188, 34 of IPC along with section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

While handcarts and two-wheelers (2 scooties and 1 motorcycle) have been seized, the horses will be handed over to the MCD.
