UTTAR-PRADESH: A case of alleged fraud amounting to ₹39 lakh under the pretext of opening a hospital has come to light in Saharanpur. Acting on the matter, the police have arrested a doctor couple from Meerut. It is alleged that the duo took lakhs of rupees from the victim for setting up a hospital and investing in a medical project but failed to fulfill their promises. Following the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and arrested both accused after finding sufficient evidence.
According to the police, a case has been registered under sections related to fraud, breach of trust, and other relevant provisions. The accused are being interrogated, and the police are also investigating whether others have fallen victim to similar scams.
Assurance Given to Open a Hospital
Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused had proposed a plan to the victim to participate in setting up a hospital. They claimed the project would yield good returns and that the hospital would become operational soon. Trusting these assurances, the victim handed over approximately ₹39 lakh to the accused in installments.
However, despite the passage of time, the hospital did not open, nor was the invested money returned. Consequently, the victim suspected fraud.
Police Investigation Following the Complaint
The police launched an investigation based on the victim’s complaint. After examining bank transactions, documents, and other available evidence, the police found the allegations to be prima facie true. Subsequently, the doctor couple from Meerut was arrested.
Police officials state that the financial transactions and documents related to the case are being scrutinized to uncover the full details of the incident.
Search for Other Victims
Investigating agencies are trying to determine if the accused had collected money from other individuals under similar schemes. If such cases come to light during the investigation, they will also be incorporated into the inquiry.
The police have appealed to the public to come forward and file a complaint if they have been subjected to similar fraud. Exercise Caution Before Investing

The police are currently questioning the accused, and the investigation into all aspects of the case is ongoing. A charge sheet will be filed in court once the investigation is complete. The final decision regarding guilt or innocence will be made by the court based on the available evidence.
