Yuvraj Singh approached to replace Ricky Ponting in Delhi Capitals?
Nearly a month after former Australia captain and veteran player Ricky Pointing parted ways with Delhi Capitals, the franchise has reportedly approached former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh for a coaching role, reported Sportstar. According to the report, Delhi Capitals – having failed to qualify for the playoffs in any of the last three seasons – are keen to have Yuvraj Singh join the team ahead of the mega auction for the 2025 season of the league. However, nothing has been finalised yet. An earlier report by News18 claimed that Delhi Capitals have approached Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra and director of cricket Vikram Solanki to be a part of DC ahead of the 2025 season. The Sportstar report states that Nehra might continue his current stint with Gujarat Titans. There are some rumours that GT is looking for experienced Indian cricketers to replace Gary Kirsten, who is currently the full-time head coach of Pakistan. Meanwhile, if Yuvraj Singh agrees to coach DC, this will be his first stint. He has coached Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma in the last few years.
Pointing is partying:
Australian World Cup-winning captain Ricky Pointing parted ways with DC in July 2024, as the franchise was dissatisfied with the team’s performance in the last few seasons.
Pointing joined DC in 2018, when it was referred to as Delhi Daredevils. In the first year of Pointing becoming the mentor, DD finished at the bottom of the table. But the team made it to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons – 2019, 2020 and 2021. But again, DC failed to make it to the last four in the last three seasons.
