Youth snatched mangalsutra from woman

Bemetara. A youth who came to buy gutkha in a grocery shop in village Bija snatched the mangalsutra of the shop owner and was preparing to run away when the villagers caught the accused youth. The other accused who came on a bike with the accused youth managed to run away. He was later caught. A crime has been registered against the accused in Bemetara police station. According to the information received from the police, two youths had come to the shop of woman shopkeeper Lakshmi Bai Verma, who runs a grocery shop on Khamharia Devarbija road in village Bija of Devarbija outpost area, on June 13.

After buying the goods, they went back on the bike. The next day, on the night of June 14, both the youths reached the shop again on the bike and one of the youths gave 200 rupees to Lakshmi Bai Verma and asked for gutkha, after which the woman started withdrawing the money when the accused youth pulled the mangalsutra worn around the woman’s neck and started running away. Then the woman shopkeeper asked for help from the people around by shouting thief-thief, after which the villagers caught a young man Pawan Sahu, a resident of Silatra. The other youth Gyanu Sahu who had come with him fled with the bike. The villagers have handed over the accused to the police. On the report of the applicant Laxmi Bai, the police have registered a crime against both the youths under section 34, 392 of the Indian Penal Code.
