Yogi met flood victims; inspected the Gomti riverbank and directed the construction of embankments.

Lucknow. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Bakshi Talab area of ​​Lucknow on Monday and met the flood affected people. During this, he distributed relief material to the affected families and instructed the administrative officials not to be negligent in the relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister also directed the Irrigation Department to conduct a detailed survey along the Gomti River from Faizullaganj to Naimisharanya and prepare a proposal for construction of embankments for a permanent solution to the flood problem. The Chief Minister inquired about the well being of the flood affected people and listened to their problems. He asked the officials to provide timely relief material and necessary assistance to the families who have suffered losses due to floods. He also directed that proper arrangements for food, drinking water, medicines and other necessary facilities should be ensured in the relief camps.
Addressing the people at Bakshi Talab, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the government stands with every family affected by the flood. He directed the officials that there should be no delay in providing relief to any needy person. He said that the administration will have to work with full sensitivity so that the affected people do not face any kind of difficulty. Giving special instructions to the Irrigation Department, the Chief Minister said that a scientific survey of the entire bank of Gomti river from Faizullaganj to Naimisharanya should be conducted. He said that a detailed plan for embankment construction should be prepared for a permanent solution in the areas of Lucknow where flood problems arise repeatedly. He said that only immediate relief is not enough, but long term measures are also necessary to avoid such situation in future.
Yogi Adityanath also reviewed the flood situation in various areas of Lucknow. He said that during the last ten days, heavy rainfall has been recorded in more than 50 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Due to continuous rains, the water level of many rivers of the state has increased rapidly, due to which flood like situation has arisen in some areas. The Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously monitoring the situation in collaboration with all the concerned departments. Additional relief and rescue teams will be deployed wherever needed. He directed the officials to increase surveillance in sensitive areas and take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of people.
He said that timely preparation and better coordination is very important to deal with natural disasters like floods. For this purpose, coordination work is being done between the administration, irrigation department, disaster management department and local bodies. He told the officials that drainage arrangements should be made expeditiously in the affected areas so that people can get relief soon. The Chief Minister also said that in places where roads, bridges or other infrastructure has been damaged, repair work should be started on priority basis. He said that all departments will have to work in a coordinated manner to normalize life.
During the distribution of relief material, the Chief Minister also interacted with women, elderly and children and inquired about their needs. He instructed the officials that there should be adequate arrangements for health services in the relief camps and the medical team should regularly check the health of the people. He also laid emphasis on ensuring cleanliness and provision of clean drinking water. The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to providing all possible assistance to the people affected by natural disasters. He assured that the loss to those whose houses or crops have been damaged will be assessed and assistance will be provided as per rules.
Yogi Adityanath also directed the officials to continuously monitor the flood affected areas and if the situation worsens at any place, relief and rescue teams should be activated immediately. He said that the administration will have to work with alertness round the clock. The Chief Minister described the proposal of construction of embankment on the banks of river Gomti as important from the future point of view. He said that if permanent structures are developed on the basis of scientific studies, the problem of frequent floods in Lucknow and surrounding areas can be reduced to a great extent.
Senior officials of the administrative and irrigation departments were also present during the Chief Minister’s visit. On the spot, he took information about the flood situation, relief work and future plans from various departments. He also directed that the relief work should be reviewed regularly and strict action should be taken against any kind of negligence. In the end, the Chief Minister assured the flood affected people that the state government stands firmly with them. He said that along with relief work, concrete and permanent steps will also be taken to prevent recurrence of floods in future, so that people do not have to face such problems every year.
