Yellapur: Three interstate bank robbers arrested

Karnataka: Police on Tuesday arrested three interstate thieves in connection with the recent robbery and attempted arson at the Karnataka Gramin Bank in Ummakagi, Karnataka.

Those arrested include Mohammed Rafiq Ismail, a resident of Gudinabail in Bantwal taluka, driver Gulzar Abdul Rahman Mukandar, a resident of Hukkeri taluka in Belgaum district, and modak seller Imran Qutubuddin Tigadi, a resident of Bailhongal.

The Yellapur police station stated, “Four teams were formed to search for the accused. CCTV footage revealed that the accused were using a Swift car. When the car was traced, it was found near a vodka bar near Kasabagh Wali Chowk in Belgaum. The accused, Mohammed Rafiq Ismail, tried to attack police officers who had gone to arrest him in Belgaum. He then attempted suicide by stabbing himself.”

He said, “When SI Rajasekhar Vandali, Siddappa Gudi and staff member Shafi Shaikh tried to arrest the accused, Mohammed Rafiq tried to attack the police. The staff member was injured. More than 50 cases are registered against the accused Mohammed Rafiq Ismail in the states of Karnataka and Kerala.”
