Yamunanagar officer awarded President’s Gallantry Medal on CISF Raising Day

Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the President’s Gallantry Medal to IPS officer Babu Ram for his courageous actions at a function held in Mundli, Bhubaneswar, on the occasion of CISF’s foundation day.

He was honored for displaying exceptional bravery and leadership during a highly risky anti-Naxal operation while serving as Superintendent of Police in Aurangabad district, Bihar, in 2016.

He hails from Jadaudi village in Yamunanagar district, and his success has brought honor to the village and the entire state.

According to reports, a joint team of district police and Cobra commandos, led by SP Babu Ram, launched a special operation against Naxalites in the dense forests of Langurahi and Chhakarbandha, located on the border of Gaya and Aurangabad districts.

During the operation, Naxalites detonated several landmines in an area of approximately 1 km in Dumri Nala, injuring several soldiers. Immediately after the explosions, Naxalites hiding on a hilltop opened fire on the security forces. Despite extremely challenging conditions, Babu Ram, displaying indomitable courage and leadership, took charge with his team and retaliated with a fierce attack on the Naxalites. In this encounter, his team killed four Naxalites and recovered their automatic weapons, ammunition, and other material. He not only thwarted a deadly Naxalite attack but also saved the lives of injured soldiers and retaliated. The operation continued throughout the night in difficult terrain, and the injured soldiers were carried on his shoulders and evacuated after walking through the jungle for more than eight hours.

For this exceptional bravery, leadership, and dedication to duty, the President of India announced the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry to IPS Babu Ram and the state police and Cobra Commando personnel who participated in the operation.
