World Water Day: Sechewal urges people to protect rivers and plant trees.

Jalandhar: On the occasion of World Water Day, emphasis was placed on raising awareness regarding the conservation of natural water resources and the importance of making one’s immediate surroundings greener. Environmentalist and Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal delivered a powerful message on environmental conservation by planting a sapling and urging the public to shoulder a collective responsibility for protecting nature. Highlighting the significance of rivers, he stated that rivers and streams serve as the lifelines of human existence. Drawing an analogy, he remarked that just as it is essential for the veins within the human body to remain clear for good health, keeping rivers free from pollution is equally vital. Expressing concern, he pointed out that the increasing presence of toxic metals in Punjab’s water bodies is becoming a grave issue.

He further added that the effects of global warming are now clearly visible—a scenario about which experts had issued warnings long ago—making the conservation of water and the environment even more critical. Sant Seechewal appealed to the public to protect natural resources in order to prevent further pollution of rivers. He emphasized that no religion discourages respect for nature; rather, protecting the environment is a moral responsibility incumbent upon every individual. On this occasion, he called upon the people to plant as many trees as possible and to make water conservation measures an integral part of their daily lives, thereby ensuring a clean and sustainable environment for future generations.
