Workers hospitalized due to gas leak, one died
One person died and several others were hospitalized in an ammonia gas leak incident at a dairy factory in Bihar’s Vaishali on Saturday. The gas leak happened between 10-10.30 pm on Saturday night when the factory workers were working inside the building. As soon as the gas leak was detected, they all started running outside the building to save themselves. Factory manager Rajeev Kumar told ANI that in the stampede that broke out, a worker fell down in the panic and lost his life.
Rajeev Kumar told, “This gas leak incident took place last night at around 10.05 pm. One worker died while trying to get out of the dairy. 7-8 workers came under the gas, but all recovered soon.” The situation at the plant is under control and we are trying our best to rectify the situation.”
The manager said, “Due to the leak, the workers on the job came out to save themselves, during which a stampede was averted. But the situation is now under control and the broken pipe has also been repaired.”
Speaking to ANI, Dr Ashok Kumar, DSP, Fire Department said, “We got information that there has been a gas leak incident from an ammonium cylinder at Raj Fresh Dairy. Several fire tenders have reached the spot to control the situation.” As of now, we have information that some laborers have been hospitalised. We are probing the cause of the leak. The situation is under control now.’
The affected laborers have been admitted to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. All of them are out of danger, but have been kept under medical observation.
Shankar Kumar, one of the laborers admitted in the hospital said, “The accident happened last night around 10.30 pm. We were doing our daily work and suddenly saw smoke. We all started running outside to save ourselves from suffocation. But this In between, some of us were inhaling poisonous gas. We all started feeling dizzy, but most of us are feeling better now.”
Krishna, another factory worker, said, “The ammonia pipe had leaked, leading to chaos. The pipe was repaired and brought under control in time, but still, it caused a lot of damage within minutes.” Done. I feel much better now.”
