Women are securing their future by finding employment in the village

Raipur. In accordance with the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Gauthans operating under the Suraji Gaon Yojana have now become a symbol of livelihood enhancement and economic empowerment. Various livelihood-oriented activities carried out in Gauthans have bought more job opportunities. Rural women are becoming financially independent by finding work close to home. Women are no longer bound to household responsibilities but are contributing to family finances and making their lives easier.
 
Under the State Government’s Suraji Gaon Yojana, the Gauthans established in villages are now presenting a new picture of development. Various activities conducted in these Gauthans include the collection of cow dung and taking care of the animals. Four years ago, ten women from the Kasturba Self-Help Group decided to work in Gauthan of Sirpur village in Mahasamund district of Saraipali district panchayat. The group now earns lakhs from the sales of cow dung and by making vermicompost. Along with this, income-generating activities such as the cultivation of vegetables and poultry farming are also conducted. A member of the group stated that earlier they were bound to household chores, but after joining the group and working in Gauthan, their self-esteem and confidence have improved, and they are now heading towards self-reliance by working in Gauthan.
