With the help of UIDAI, missing disabled girl from Assam reunites with her family

Guwahati: A positive example of social welfare and the effective use of technology has emerged in Assam, where, with the help of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), a missing disabled girl was reunited with her family. The case culminated in a successful reunion on April 25, 2026, after a search that lasted 2025.

According to an official statement issued by PIB Guwahati, the girl is a resident of Borhat Tea Estate in Charaideo district, Assam. The girl is mentally challenged and cannot communicate verbally, making her identification and contact with her family even more challenging.

According to information, the girl had been away from home for a long time, and establishing her identity was difficult. Therefore, technology-based identification systems and the collaborative efforts of various institutions played a crucial role in this case.

With the assistance of UIDAI, the girl’s identification process was carried forward, matching available records and other relevant information. After this, her identity was gradually confirmed and the process of reuniting her with her family began.

The Child Welfare Committee, local police, and child care institutions also played a crucial role in this entire process. All agencies worked in coordination to ensure the girl’s safe return.

According to officials, this case is an example of how technology and administrative support can combine to address social problems. UIDAI’s identification system helped make this process swift and effective.

On the day of reunion, the girl was safely returned to her family. All legal and security procedures were followed in the presence of administrative officials and relevant agencies.

The local administration stated that it was an emotional moment for the girl’s family when her identity was confirmed. The family was deeply distressed due to her long absence.

This case also demonstrated the importance of a robust system for identifying and protecting vulnerable and special needs individuals. Such technological support becomes even more crucial in the case of mentally disabled children.

Officials stated that such incidents may occur in the future, so there is a need for better coordination between various departments and further strengthening the use of technology.

The role of the UIDAI is being seen as a significant success in this case, as their identification system helped resolve the issue even in complex circumstances.

The Child Welfare Committee also praised the effort, stating that prompt action and a collaborative approach are essential in such cases.

Local police also stated that there was good coordination between all agencies throughout the operation, which ensured the safe return of the girl to her family.

This incident is being seen as a successful example of social security and the use of technology in Assam, which could serve as a model for other such cases in the future.
