Will Mayurbhanj Ayurveda College regain its past glory with Govt recognition? watch

Baripada: Despite repeated demands for government recognition of Mayurbhanj Ayurveda College in Odisha, the efforts have yielded no results. The college, established in 1983 in Takatpur, Baripada, was once a thriving institution, producing 30 Ayurveda doctors annually. However, it has been shut down since 2007 due to lack of permission from the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM).

The college, which had students from various states, was built with the efforts of retired judge Sachidananda Mishra and lawyer Dhirendra Mohan Panda. It had a 100-bed hospital and was located near the Similipal sanctuary, providing access to medicinal herbs. The college was successfully run from 1983 to 2007 but faced issues due to lack of experienced faculty and CCIM permission.

The faculty and staff are now struggling due to non-payment of salaries, and the infrastructure is deteriorating. Youth and student organizations are demanding government recognition and revival of the college. Despite assurances from politicians, including the Mayurbhanj MP, no concrete steps have been taken.

The revival of the college could lead to research opportunities on medicinal plants and employment opportunities for locals. The demand for recognition and support continues, with hopes that the institution will be restored to its former glory.
