West Bengal: Bullets fired in clash over possession of Chopra tea garden, two injured

Raiganj. Raiganj: Two people were injured by shrapnel in a clash over the occupation of a tea garden in Chopra Block of North Dinajpur on Saturday. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Both are undergoing treatment at the block health center. Sources said that a tea company had set up a garden on a plot of 70 bighas. A few years ago, the company left the garden due to losses. Since then, the workers working in the garden started running it themselves.

This garden is located in Nichkhali village of the block.

A few months ago, Hasibul Rehman, a resident of Bhavanipur area of ​​Chopra, tried to occupy the garden. The workers opposed it and there was an altercation between the two sides.

A source said, “A meeting was also held at the house of local Trinamool MLA Hamidul Rahman to resolve the issue. But it did not yield any result.” On Saturday, Hasibul reached the garden with some of his companions and tried to occupy it. The workers opposed it. Soon a clash broke out. During the clash, two people were injured by shrapnel. Some other people were also injured in the incident. A police team reached the spot and dispersed both the groups. Police sources said that investigation has started but no arrests have been made yet.
